“The rainforests play a key role in the existence of humans, and I believe we should protect them from harm. In Indonesia, the people living in rainforest areas usually survive day to day. With only few jobs available, some of them irresponsibly cut the trees to sell wood, or open agricultural land by burning the forest. For years, I had an unstable income working as a laborer. Learning how to make sugar derived from arenga trees in a sustainable manner, and being part of Sunria’s fair trade system, has provided me with a secure livelihood for my family. I am proud that my life changing experience inspires others, and helps them realize that we must respect the rainforest, so it can continue to thrive alongside our future generations.”
